DBBC Student Success Stories

Student A

...was unemployed when she came to us. Having completed our course she stayed on with DBBC for several months as a volunteer. She then found a job as a care assistant and has progressed to having her own client list, now that she can drive.


Student B

...came to DBBC after leaving college, completed our course and got a place at London University studying media. The experience and qualifications gained through taking our course enabled him to get in at Uni.


Student C

... was a young Russian woman who had married a Bolton man but found that she couldn't get a job because of her limited English and lack of confidence. She came to us, completed the course, did some voluntary reception work for DBBC and later found a job at Manchester Airport.


Student D

...was a mature woman wanting to re-enter the employment market but she needed to gain skills and confidence. After DBBC training and some volunteering with us, she got a job at the Royal Bolton Hospital.


Student E

...came to us very depressed and lacking in confidence - he just wanted a job. He completed our course and was taken on at a new store in Bolton where he is now in charge of the gardening section.


Student F

...was living on benefits, unable to find work, depressed and had lost all self-confidence. He came to DBBC, completed the course and became a valuable volunteer with us before getting a job at Manchester Airport and moving on in his life.

Student G

...was a well-qualified Portuguese man who had worked in finance. After being made redundant, he found he couldn't get a job. He was on a downward spiral, living in poor accommodation with no spare money and feeling frustrated. He spent 18 months with DBBC, first doing the course and then staying on to volunteer. He regained his self-esteem, saw that we valued him and eventually gained employment in Manchester. He was promoted after a few months, got engaged, moved to a new house and is now looking forward to getting married. He says he is indebted to us for having faith in him.


Student H

...has autism and had been bullied throughout secondary school. She was very intelligent, but unable to bring herself to hold a conversation. When she came to DBBC, we recognized her potential and saw that she needed nurturing and encouraging to believe in herself. She eventually got a job with a company in Manchester working  for the National Census Office.


Students I

...came to do the course after getting involved in one of DBBC's community broadcasts on the estate where they lived. They have now set up a media company of their own and are working with residents.


Students J

...were two Asian women who wanted to do a programme on local radio to promote Asian women's welfare. They came to DBBC for training (having never been in a studio before) and then we introduced them to Bolton fm where they have been presenting a very successful weekly radio show for the last 12 months.
